Fatboy DNA eBike FAQs
Fatboy DNA range estimates are based on battery energy calculations, real-world riding data, and physics-based efficiency modelling under Australian conditions.
What is the range of the Fatboy DNA ebike?
The Fatboy DNA ebike has an estimated range of up to 60km on a single charge at its regulated top speed of 25km/h. Real-world range typically falls between 35 and 60km, depending on rider weight, terrain, assist level, and riding conditions.
How is the range of the Fatboy DNA ebike calculated?
The range is calculated using battery capacity and average energy consumption per kilometre.
The Fatboy DNA uses a 48V 15Ah battery, which equals 720Wh of usable energy. At a regulated speed of 25km/h, typical energy use ranges from 12 to 20Wh per kilometre, resulting in a calculated range of approximately 35 to 60km.
This method reflects real-world riding rather than laboratory-only testing.
Why does the Fatboy DNA have a range limit even with a 1000W peak controller?
The 1000W rating refers to peak power, not continuous use. During steady riding, the motor draws significantly less power. Range is determined by average energy use over distance, not peak output, which is why battery capacity is the key factor.
Does riding at top speed reduce the range?
Yes. Riding continuously at top speed increases energy use compared to lower assist levels. However, because the Fatboy DNA is limited to 25km/h, aerodynamic drag and power draw remain controlled, allowing a usable range even at maximum assisted speed.
Why does rider weight affect ebike range?
Heavier riders increase rolling resistance and motor load, which raises energy consumption per kilometre. This reduces total distance per charge, especially on fat-tyre ebikes.
Is the Fatboy DNA suitable for daily commuting?
Yes. With an estimated range of up to 60km, the Fatboy DNA comfortably covers most daily commutes on a single charge, with many riders able to commute multiple days between charges depending on distance and usage.
Is the stated Fatboy DNA range guaranteed?
No. The range is an estimate, not a guarantee. Battery performance varies based on conditions, usage, and environment. These realistic estimates help riders make informed decisions when choosing the right
e-bike.
What factors most affect the range of the Fatboy DNA?
The main factors are
• Rider weight
• Terrain and hills
• Assist level used
• Tyre pressure
• Riding speed and acceleration
Maintaining correct tyre pressure and using moderate assist levels can significantly extend range.
